John's November Update - 2007
Work on 7200 has progressed on throughout 2007, we have welcomed two more active members to the working party and this has enabled us to proceed with more tasks. Early November saw the arrival of the replacement brake blocks from Peter Robinson, hopefully the correct ones this time.
A new chimney also arrived. The vacuum cylinder and brake gear having been refurbished in house, is now being refitted. At the same time the difficult task of welding the cracks in the steam chest is about to be undertaken. We are fortunate that one of our new members is a qualified welder.
Another job also in progress is the refurbishment of the bunker, we have discovered that ours is unique, the other members of the class in preservation have stepped bunkers whilst ours is of the coal scuttle type.
We have separated the top part from the bottom of it. We now plan to weld a new base onto the bottom outer ring, this has to be done on the frames so as to prevent any distortion. We can then start to rebuild the bunker in the restoration shed. The sales stand in the museum continues to provide us with a steady source of income thanks to Maureen and Barbara.
